Magma Vase
About the Item
Hand blown glass vase, monumental size. Gold Ruby Red glass, almost black in massif. Smooth on surface. Original. Organic shape. Freehand shaped. Heavy solid glass.
This piece is part of collection of sculptural glass objects, vases and bowls.
Molten glass naturally flows down and forms itself into soft rounded shapes. It is in fact a red hot liquid similar to magma. As well as magma molten glass changes its color after cooling down. Glass shapes of the collection refer to the natural phenomenon when hot and liquid magma turns solid state.
The vessels of this collection are hand modeled, no forms are used in the process of creation. The method generates vessels, mostly vases and objects of soft organic shaping. The surface “liquid” structure has a distinctive relief that encourages physical contact.

Jitka Skuhravá
Studio Jitka Skuhrava was founded by Jitka and her husband Tomas Kamenec. They both have traditional glassmaking background and follow in the footsteps of their parents and grandparents. Over the last few years they have been focusing on producing artistic glass and original light installations for architecture. They use their own studio and regional technologies to realize their projects.
Jitka Skuhrava says to the foundation of the studio: “Glass is a fascinating material which has been part of our whole life, and still does not cease to amaze us with its fragile and unique beauty. We love creating personal and original designs. We see to process of our art works from the beginning to the end; we respect the quality of every individual part and often ourselves refine the glass with our own skills and hands."
Jitka Skuhrava is a graduate of Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague (Professor V. Kopecky’s studio). Since 2007 he has been designing lighting installations for architecture. Before that, she completed the study of glass crafts, graduated from engraving and glass cutting.
Her work is characterized by an organic design and a varied spectrum of glassmaking techniques typical for Czech art glass.
