Antique 19th century German (Hanau) magnificent solid silver-gilt pair of large lidded vases. Of inverted pear shape on acanthus leaf and lobed bases, both chased with elaborate coats-of-arms flanked by putti with swords and two agricultural scenes, sides applied with well modelled lion masks below applied scrolling ribbons, domed removable lids with cast finials fully modeled as putti with a rake and basket of flowers and the other shooting an arrow, each on detachable carved ebonised wood stands. Hallmarked with German Hanau pseudo marks, tested 800+ silver standard, marked on bases with French import marks (swan), inventory number 125329, 125330. With the demand for antique style silver in the 19th century, Hanau silversmiths quickly found a market niche, which brought its silver manufacturers enormous prosperity and worldwide reputation, these silversmiths offered a wide range of highly decorative objects like neffs, tankards, coconut and nautilus cups...
