Pair of 19th century/2nd Empire bronze decorative amphorae by Ferdinand Barbedienne By: Ferdinand Barbedienne Material: bronze, metal, copper Technique: forged, gilt, metalwork, molded, patinated, cast Dimensions: 4 in x 10 in Date: late 19th century Style: 2nd Empire, Neoclassical Place of origin: France Pair of decorative neoclassical style vases made of patinated dark bronze. Each designed in the shape of a footed amphora resting on top of a circular base, their bodies ornated in relief with leaves, a bunch of grapes and snails underneath, and pictorial patterns in the neck, all in contrasting gold. A sign that reads 'F. BARBEDIENNE fondeur' can be seen on the edge of the base. Both pieces are a clear example of the Neoclassical style and characteristic of the french Second Empire that can be observed in the catalog of Barbedienne's productions, since he represents one of its most emblematic exponents.
