Pair of Egyptian Revival Vases, France, Last Quarter of the 19th Century

About the Item

A pair of "Egyptian Revival" vases, made of turned and sculpted Alder wood following an Egyptizing shape according to the taste of the Egyptian era. The vases are finished with a preparation to emulate porphyry. Narrow and short, circular base, body that opens like an amphora with narrow diameters and rises to the shoulder, marked with a sharp angle and then continues upwards, tightening around the neck. A raised hem concludes the body. The two handles are ribbons of rectangular section, folded at right angles. The bell-shaped lid ends with an acorn at the apex. The pieces are all unique and supportive, the lids do not open. France circa 1870.
