Pair of Modernist Vases, Calamine 'metal', Signed “L & F Moreau”

About the Item

Pair of vases with smooth base and globular body, which have long necks open in the upper area, and decorated on the outside with a fine relief with plant and animal elements, and two half-naked children's figures. These children show some relation with neoclassical works, but the natural landscapes with plants (especially aquatic, with the presence of flowers) and different animals (bird in flight, crab, frog) show details closer to Modernism or Art Nouveau (curved shapes, prominence of nature, etc.). The signature "L & F Moreau" refers to the company created by Louis Auguste (1855-1919) and Hippolyte François Moreau (1832-1927), two well-known brothers for their sculptures, which were so appreciated that they were used as a reference and inspiration long after the death of both. Many works have been preserved with this same signature (lamps, trimmings, vases, sculptures, etc., both in bronze and pewter, in alloys with zinc or metal in general) either created by the brothers or inspired in these creations, highlighting the modernist works of the early 20th century.
