Regency Period Botanical Old Paris Porcelain Vase Pair
About the Item
This exquisite petite pair of Regency Period hand-painted Old Paris porcelain spill vases feature two seperate displays of delicate flowers. One depicts spring jonquils, a pink rose, blue columbine, bell flower and for-get-me-nots. The other a colorful parrot tulip, pink roses, and white blossoms with florets of for-get-me -knots. The backs are painted green with a gold gilt bird of paradise perched in a tree. Gold highlights border around the rim and base and fanciful patterns below the rims create even more visual interest as does the raised beaded band at the bottom.
Top opening meaures:3.25 inches, the bottom 2.25 inches wide.
*A spill vase was usually kept on the mantelpiece and was filled with spills used to transfer fire from the fireplace to candles, lamps, a pipe or a cigar. Commercial matches, which first surfaced in England during the 1820s were a relatively expensive commodity until the late 19th century, and spill was therefore a more cost effective solution. This pair would now be great for small floral bouquets

- Condition:Repaired: One has a smail old repair under the top rim. Minor losses. There is loss to paint here and there *see last two images. Not in perfect condition but they are so pretty that when they are facing with the flowers forward it is hard to see the paint loss. One has a smail old repair under the top rim.
