Rose and Topaz Heiki Vase, Pia Wüstenberg

About the Item

Rose and Topaz Heiki vase, Pia Wüstenberg Dimensions: D 20-22 x H 32-40 Materials: glass, wood, metal wire Available in other colors. Inspired by a simple fix on an old sauna ladle handle, fixed with wire and outright everyday genius. Heiki (named after the man who invented the fix) are soft and bulbous vases, with a unique wooden handle, fixed onto the glass after it has cooled down. Heiki are blown without a mould: their outer rim is originally the inside of the glass bubble, thus their round and soft edges, characteristic of this artistic process. Handmade in Europe: freehand blown glass (England), handcrafted wood (Finland), brass wire (Germany). The materials then come to our warehouse in North Germany where they are fitted and assembled. Pia Wüstenberg, Utopia Pia Wüstenberg is a creative with a passion for materials and craft. She graduated from the Royal College of Arts Design Products course in 2011 and was running her own freelance studio in East London till summer 2017. After this her studio relocated to rural North Germany, allowing better access to the European crafts and more time to dream. Pia is a freelance designer at Utopia and utility and owner of the brand (which involves everything from heavy lifting to drawing up new ideas).

  • Monumental Signed Shunichi Inoue White and Rose Ash Glazed Vase 1978
    By Shunichi Inoue
    Located in Melbourne, AU
A wonderful example of the work of master Japanese potter, Shunichi Inoue. This vessel dates from his Australian residency. We love the potency of this very simple form - it has a powerful presence, connoting stillness, composure. For some reason it makes me think of the moon. It has the same still, calm, abiding presence. Shunichi Inoue studied ceramics at Kyoto City University of Arts 1969-75. He travelled to Australia to lecturer in ceramics at the Bendigo College of Advanced Education in Victoria, Australia where he stayed for three years. He returned to Australia in late 1984 as a visiting professor and again in 1993, when he made an extended stay. He was an active exhibitor and had an important influence on Australian pottery...
