Soffiato Amphora Vase by Vittorio Zeccin for MVM Cappellin circa 1925

About the Item

Twin handled Soffiato vase is attributed to Vittorio Zecchin (1878-1947) who made an enduring footprint on 20th century glass. The producers MVM Cappellin were one of the most important companies to Italian glass. The company was born of a partnership Giacomo Cappellin (1887 - 1968) an antiques dealer from Venice and Paolo Venini (1895 - 1959) a lawyer from Milan. The Vittorio Zecchin the designer’s amphora honey colored glass comes from the classical shape of ancient Greek pottery. It is made up a two-handled pot with a narrower cylindrical neck than its oval body. The applied handles ascend close to the edge of the fluted mouth. Amphora were generally used as jars, vases or decanters in the ancient world. • Literature 'The Final Chapter' The Martin Cohen Collection, p. 212.
