Swedish Modern Wilhelm Kåge Argenta Vase, green glazed stoneware and silver
About the Item
Delicate Mermaid and Seaweed vase by Wilhelm Kåge for Studio Gustavsberg, 1949
The Argenta collection, now emblematic with its green glaze and silver decorations, is one of Wilhelm Käge's most recognizable motifs. Designed in the late 1920s, it was first presented at the Stockholm exhibition in 1930 and was then produced by Gustavsberg, whose designer was the artistic director in the 1930s and 1940s. Finished in tooled silver and a brilliant green-turquoise glaze, this Argenta vase depicts a mermaid swimming between algae and seaweed.
This vase is on the medium sized side of Argenta vases.
Signed with the anchor and GUSTAVSBERG S ARGENTA 1132 II MADE IN SWEDEN BA (possibly painter's signature Birger Arvidsson).
