Thomas Hellstrom for Nittsjo Swedish Art Pottery Vase

About the Item

A modernist mid-century Swedish tall art pottery vase with a rough cast finish by Thomas Hellstrom for Nittsjo Pottery and dating from around 1960. This very tall stylish vase is made from a red terracotta clay and has a cylindrical shaped body standing on flat rounded base and flares out with a wide rounded top with a raised rounded opening. The vase has been applied with a brown matt glazed finish with a gritty contrasting texture with the top section over glazed in in blue glazes which continue inside the body of the vase. The vase has impressed makers and artist marks to the base and also has printed marks including number 5416. Thomas Hellstrom joined the Nittsjo Pottery in 1958 as a designer. His modernist designs were always very popular and examples of his work are in the collection of the National Museum of Sweden in Stockholm. In good original condition.
