Very Large Memphis Glass Object by Matteo Thun for Tiffany & Co., 1987

About the Item

Extraordinary and very large (86cm in height) blue glass object by famous designer and Memphis Group founding member Matteo Thun (1952 – Italy). Rinascimento Collection for Tiffany & Co, made by Murano glass house Barovier&Toso in Venezia in 1987. This series of art glass is regarded as one of the most noteworthy made in the 1980s, as stated in the book ‘Venetian Glass 1890-1990’ by Rosa Barovier Mentasti, Arsenale Editrice, 1992. This particular series of art glass vases is described as ‘..as well as as the large blue Rinascimento vase series, with annular narrowing and decorated by bold cuts and the fine crystalline glasses crafted ''a lume'' designed by Matteo Thun.’ This unique and breathtaking crystal object in different hues of blue is a fine example of the talent and vision of Matteo Thun. The simple and yet sophisticated form of this large piece is outstanding. This piece is engraved with geometric forms and shapes. This glass object is signed and numbered – and in excellent condition. Please note we also have a second glass object from the same collection. They make a really great and rare pair.
