Yoichi Ohira 1996 Murano Italy Crescita Abstract Vase in White Lattimo Art Glass

About the Item

Rare vase designed by Yoichi Ohira (1946-). An unique one-of-a-kind piece of Art-Glass, created by Yoichi Ohira at the Murano island, in Venice Italy, back in the 1996. This wonderful and rare vase has been carefully crafted in blown Lattimo Bianco (milk white) glass with applied crescents decorations of glass sprouts at top. Embellished at top with a reticcelo pattern and the lateral decorations are carefully treated with a battuto finish. Note: Designed by Yoichi Ohira and crafted by the Venetian glass maestro (maestro vetraio) Livio Serena. Measurements: The height measure is 6.5 inches (16.51 Cm) and the diameter is 5.25 inches (13.35 Cm). Signatures: It is etched at the base, with the artist cipher cartouche and signed in full, "YOICHI OHIRA Mo L. SERENA 1/1 UNICO CRESCITA 1996". Yoichi Ohira, was born in Japan in 1946, presently lives in Venice, Italy, was born and raised in Japan. He graduated from Tokyo's Kuwasawa Design School in 1969, and moved to Venice in 1973 to study sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti. Ohira began working with glass on Murano at the Centro Studio Pittori nell'Arte del Vetro di Murano (commonly known as the Fucina degli Angeli) in 1973. In 1987, he was offered the position of artistic director at Murano's de Majo glassworks, where he worked with some of the island's most accomplished and talented glass masters. In 1992, Ohira left de Majo and entered on a career as an independent artist. In 1993, he began working with the Muranese master glassblower Livio Serena. In 1995, the master glass cutter Giacomo Barbini joined Ohira artistic team. Literature: Carl I. Gable, Murano Magic, Schiffer 2004, Pp-191, illustrated. This flat charger was crafted during the art deco period back in the early 1920 by the blown glass process. Made up in transparent amber glass with the upper rim accented by a stripe made up from blue pate d verre. Soffiato Glassblowing or Soffiato in Italian, is a glass forming technique that involves inflating molten glass into a bubble with the aid of a blowpipe. A person who blows glass is called a glassblower, glassmith, or gaffer. The word come from soffietta, a tool used as a puffer to further inflate a vessel after it has been removed from the blowpipe and is attached to the pontil. It consists of a curved metal tube attached to a conical nozzle.
