About the Item
During 1778 and afterwards, (Josiah) Wedgwood made conchology his study, and formed an admirable collection of shells. From this date may be traced his adaptation of these exquisite natural forms to his art.*
This creamware shell shaped dish is part of our large collection of early Wedgwood creamware, and is found in the Wedgwood creamware collection of the V and A Museum Cat# C.71-1914.
