Green Murano Glass Ashtray with Blue Shades by Flavio Poli 1960s

About the Item

Green and Blue Murano glass ashtray, whose realisation is attributed to Flavio Poli and made in the 1960s The ashtray has been realised with a particular color infusing technique: green with blu shades according to different perspectives. Condition are excellent. Flavio Poli was born in 1900 in Chioggia and is known for being a great Italian ceramist, draftsman and painter. Poli is known as the "glass artist" for his contribution to the development of Murano glass, promoting a new style during the 1950s that became known as the "submerged style." In 1934 he began working as a glassmaker for the he Barovier, Seguso, & Ferro company in Murano (which later became Seguso Vetri d'Arte), of which he became partner and artistic director. During these years of career he designed together with Archimede Seguso, creating complex lighting installations in Murano glass In the postwar years he conceived the style of submerged glass, a technique created by superimposing different layers from glass with different consistencies of colors, introducing in this way glass with a strong thickness that is in stark contrast to the processes then in vogue in the Murano world, thus accomplished a very important innovation for the time that allowed him to win the prize Golden compass. Poli is known and appreciated for the theme of the female nude, where he was the first to tackle this theme in Murano where we can see it in the composter from the 1930s, a central female bust with a grip function. During his career Flavio Poli conceived different objects representing always different subjects, as for the Compagnia di Venezia and Murano which made massive animals in glass.

  • Blue Murano Glass Bottle by Carlo Moretti from the 1980s
    By Carlo Moretti
    Located in Milano, MI
Blue Murano glass bottle, made by Carlo Moretti in the 1980s. Measures: Ø cm 8, H cm 21 Carlo Nason, born in Murano in 1935 from one of the oldest glassmaking families on the island, he was a great master glassmaker. He grew up attending the glass masters who work in the family furnace, appropriating the most refined techniques of glass art, demonstrating an innovative and planning attitude that he employed in the field of design, but referring to tradition. In 1925 the Nason Moretti company was founded by the Nasone brothers, specializing in the production of furnishing accessories and tableware, where the mastery of the most refined Murano techniques is integrated with a modern vision and careful chromatic research. In 1955 Umberto Nason created an innovative project of two-tone bowls and glasses that earned him the Compasso d'Oro award. In the 1960s, with the second generation of the family, there was a great development of the company which still maintained its characteristic vocation for experimentation. In the 1980s, he looked at lighting with postmodern reinterpretations of designed lights, with the Carlo Moretti Studio line and the series of collectible goblets and glasses. Since the 1990s, the business has focused on new collections conceived in a modern and design-oriented key. Carlo Moretti of Venice, founded by Carlo in 1958 in Murano, passed to new ownership in 2013, but it is still an important company today due to its constant relationship with design. The company is known for the beauty and elegance of Murano glass, arriving not only in the tables of the most important families, but also in the modern tables of today. Worked with ancient and secret techniques, Nason Moretti glasses...
