19th Century Cast Iron Wine Bottle Corker or Corcier

About

19th century cast iron wine bottle Corker or Corcier is an ingenious product of the Industrial Revolution with a complex dual spring return system and a design that ensures the least amount of spillage. The model was designated the appellation "L'Energic" indicating the ease with which the device could be used. The design was also embossed in the casting with the words "Echauder les Bouchons" which means dry cork. What little wine that did spill out from the process was easily drained off by the spout cast into the collecting basin below. The lever is amazingly easy to operate, making this the crown jewel of wine corkers before the days of mechanization took over the industry, circa 1895. Measures: 44 H x 13 W x 21 D.
