!8th Century Continental Silver (.800) Wager/Marriage Cup
About the Item
Rare, 18th century, Continental Silver (.800) Wager/Marriage Cup, Augsburg, 1781-1783, Christian Drentwert II - maker. The figure is of a woman, arms raised, holding up a cup on a swivel. Her skirt is decorated with dragons, swirls,bows, etc. When the skirt is turned upside down, the top cup swivels so that two people can drink out of the marriage/wager cup at the same time.
The figure stands 6 1/2 inches high (at highest point) x 3 inches diameter at the widest point. Weighs 5.235 troy ounces. Her face and hair are finely detailed, especially her face which wears a lovely smile. There are a few minor dints on the rim of her skirt (see photos) that are commensurate with age and use. Dark areas on silver in photos are reflections. In very good antique condition.
