Set of Eight Wilhelm Wagenfeld / Bauhaus Style Clear Jena Glass Hot Drinks Cups

About the Item

Set of eight tea, coffee or toddy drinks cups with handles. Fine delicate but strong Jena glass taper inward from the bottom upwards. Jena glass (German: Jenaer Glas) is a shock- and heat-resistant glass used in scientific, technological as well as household applications, especially in chemistry. The glass was invented by Otto Schott in 1884 in Jena, Germany, where he had established Schott AG with Ernst Abbe and Carl Zeiss (lens fame) Important designers participated in the shaping of Jena heat resistant products since the 1920s: Gerhard Marcks, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Heinrich Löffelhardt, Bruno Mauder, Ilse Decho and Hans Merz. One of the Bauhaus artist László Moholy-Nagy advertising Campaign initiated in the 1930s contributed greatly to its success.
