French Silver Art Deco Centerpiece and Mirrored Tray

About the Item

A silver and mirrored centerpiece, elaborate and ornamental from the late 1920s. The great metalwork was created by Orfevrerie Dilecta, a French company that specialized in these pieces (often called Jardinieres). They began production in the Art Nouveau Period, later evolving into the geometric floral patterns of the Art Deco era. Between 1906 and the 1930s every fashionable home would have had something like this filled with fruit or flowers to grace a formal dining table, buffet, or mantle. It is a thing of beauty on its own, but it does come to life by adding something as simple as a floating gardenia or a full cornucopia of grapes and roses. Centerpiece Bowl:17? W x 8? D x 1.25? T Mirror Base:12? x 5.25? x 5.25? T.

This one, in delicately hand crafted silver is stamped on the bottom with the initials” A G ” and ” France” and it dates from the 1920s. A chalice is a special cup of grand size used in nearly every religion on earth for a ceremonial purpose: to hold sacred wine or sacred waters, to convey a blessing and even the occasional curse. The “Silver Chalice” is also the name of a great novel, and then later a film starring Paul Newman, set in Rome with a quest by Julius Caesar to find the chalice used...
