Blue Limoges Porcelain Vase Château de Chambord 1853

About the Item

Amphora of Limoges 'solifleur' titled Salamandre à Chambord with a navy blue background, cut and cut edge, in the centre the symbol «Salamandre à Chambord» in enamel and gold, on the reverse coat of arms of the fleur-de-lis surmounted by a royal crown, symbol of the French Monarchy and the Chateau de Chambord by the artist M . Redon. The crowned salamander is the symbol of Francis I, adopted the salamander his royal symbol and of his Château de Chambord: Chambord salamander surmounted by a crown, "Nutrisco et Extinguo" - I feed on the good fire and extinguish the bad". The salamander is shown spitting water to put out the evil fire.

    Ormolu Mounted From our Ceramics collection, we are delighted to offer a pair of French Sevres boat-shaped porcelain dishes with original ormolu mounts. The serving dishes beautifully decorated with a frieze of vibrant green undulating foliate garlands interspersed with mosaic style classical romanesque cartouches and birds. The inside decorated with gilt scrollwork embellishments with a six point start to the centre. The porcelain raised on four scrolling legs draped with garlands of fruiting vine.
