About the Item
Small stoneware dish glazed in the 1960s in Denmark, signed Nils Kähler (1906-1979). Beautiful two-tone glaze, light grey with deep midnight blue and turquoise tones. Signature and label underneath.
The Kähler factory was founded in Denmark in 1839 by Joachim Christian Herman Kähler (1808-1884) and was subsequently run by several generations of the family. One of his descendants, Nils Kähler, took over the reins in 1940 with his brother Herman. Initially an apprentice, he studied sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, before becoming a master ceramist. He became production manager and designer for Kähler, as well as for other manufacturers. The company left the family in 1974, but is still in business today.

- Vintage Danish Glass Vase by Per Lutken for Holmegaard in 1960sBy Per Lutken for HolmegaardLocated in SAINT-YRIEIX-SUR-CHARENTE, FRGlass vase (H:25cm), design by Per Lutken (1916-1998), published by the famous Danish glassworks Holmegaard. The bluish tone, the thickness of the glass visible at the top is an integral part of the design of this vase, dated and signed underneath. Per Lutken was a famous Danish glassmaker who joined Holmegaard in 1942 and worked there until his death. He contributed to the revival of the glass industry, which was running out of steam at the time, by bringing his pure and timeless style, which has become a classic of Scandinavian design and can be found in many Danish and Swedish homes. He was very productive and for decades created numerous models that made the glassware industry successful in Denmark and around the world. The Holmegaard factory was founded in 1823 in Næstved, southwest of Copenhagen, and started its activity by manufacturing green and brown bottles, and later turned to art glass. Count Christian Conrad Danneskiold-Samsøe bought the Holmegaard estate and realised that the local peat could be used as fuel. He asked the Danish king...Category
