Early 20th Century Japanese Small Plate
About the Item
Beautifully crafted small plate from Japan. As you can see in the images only a small circle motif of the plate was left unglazed. It has a primitive feeling and old world energy. The piece is very simple and yet almost defines the wabi sabi definition of strength and humility strengthened by its minimal aesthetic.
A stoneware piece of history. I am unsure of its principal use but the porcelain glaze over top is in excellent condition.
There are no chips or cracks.
The history of this small plate come from Japan, where I had found it at an antique shop close to a neighbouring shrine.. Some 90 minutes or so by subway from Tokyo.
Like all my items - they speak to tradition, quality, craftsmanship, history and sense of place. Items that are one of a kind. Holding some sensibility of mystery while also existing as a functional object. Items to enrich your life - to share a story with friends or family.
When you own this piece it then becomes a part of your story, the narrative of your own life.
