About

A stylized, white glazed ceramic "colombe" (dove) attributed to the French artist Andre Baud (1903-1986). The simplicity of the form and glaze is typical of Baud's work. In 1942, he was one of the first ceramists to move to Vallauris. Inspired by Picasso's Dove of Peace drawing in 1949, the dove became the symbol for the Peace Movement after the war. In excellent condition. Marked: Vallhauris

For more information on Andre Baud see French Pottery of the 1950s by Pierre Staudenmeyer, pp. 114-115.
