Gonder Pottery Bud Vase Ewer in Chartreuse Drip Glaze 1940s-1950s

About the Item

Vintage ceramic ewer-shaped bud vase was made by Gonder Pottery in Zanesville, Ohio. The vase has highly sculptural, characteristic mid-century modern shape with graphic handle that is accentuated by complex chartreuse glaze with light brown drip accent around the middle of the vase. The interior of the vase is glazed in the same color. The vase is signed with raised Gonder USA script mark, the second oldest Gonder mark. It is done in modified cursive script; the script mark emphasizes the long tail of the letter G and also adds a similar tail to the letter d. Gonder Pottery operated from 1941 to 1957; from 1946 to 1954, Gonder also operated the Elgee Pottery, which made ceramic lamp bases. Gonder made high-grade pottery decorated with flambe, drip, gold crackle, and Chinese crackle glazes.
