About the Item

This is a wonderful handmade, hand-painted and hand glazed few- of- a- kind, Mid-Century Modern ceramic deer or ibex by master designer Eva Fritz Lindner working at the Karlruhe some fifty years ago. Spectacular design, lovely vivid colors, good opportunity to collect as few exist today. Dimensions: a large one, 8 inches tall and 13 inches length Glaze: gorgeous green, blue, black and browns Designer signature: signature i 3 on base along with model number i 3312 Provenance: private German collection. Handmade, hand-painted, hand glazed only one About the Artist: The sculptress and ceramist Eva Fritz Lindner (1933-2017) worked for the Staatliche Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe, about 1939-1960; then in own workshop from about 1970. She studied at the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden and Darmstadt and was a master student in the sculptor class by Erich Kuhn. From 1955 she worked in a permanent position at the Staatliche Majolika-Manufaktur Karlsruhe. During this time she created designs for building and garden ceramics, vessels and small sculptures. Since 1964, the sculptress worked as a freelance artist in her own studio in Karlsruhe-Durlach. The artist designed important works in the field of building ceramics, including wall designs in mosaic, in Mannheim, Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden, Schwäbisch Gmünd and Göppingen. Of particular note, she created enormous scale owl sculptures for the palace gardens in Karlsruhe in 1967 (see photo). In 1962, Eva Fritz-Lindner was awarded the silver medal at the Prague International Ceramic Exhibition. Since 1990 the artist created her own glass designs which were executed in Murano and Lauscha. The artists' ceramics are located in the Hetjens-Museum Düsseldorf, in the Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art in Frechen, in the Württemberg State Museum Stuttgart, in the Badenisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe, in the Museum of Applied Art in Cologne and in the Museo National de Cerámica Valencia.
