Robert Maxwell Signed Large Mid-Century Modern California Studio Pottery Charger
By Robert Maxwell
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully made and beautifully designed Mid-Century Modern pottery charger by famed California potter and sculptor Robert Maxwell. Maxwell co-founded Earthgender pottery with fellow potter David Cressey. This charger/platter was made at his Venice beach, California Pottery studio in the early 1960s as verified by his wife. It is a very rare piece in respect to design, pattern, and sheer Size/heft (it is a very heavy work). We have not seen another quite like it. Apparently, he only made a few with some filled with melted glass to create the design/pattern. Signed by Maxwell on the base. Would clearly be a great addition to any mid-century pottery/ceramics collection...

Ceramic, Porcelain Vein Vessel
Located in Hermosa Beach, CA
This ceramic vessel works both as a decorative piece on its own or can be used as a vase. I made this piece mixing a combination of porcelain paper clay with a black sable clay. I fired this piece to a cone 10 high fire and used minimal glazing to really showcase the beautiful black clay. I am doing an entire series with this clay body and these pieces look great paired together. There are multiple shapes available so you can create a pairing in twos and threes. This design begins with a strong base, then I build these pieces up with coils and pinch...

Colors are green and teal. Vintage signed Paul Anthony Abstract Modernist Studio Art Pottery textured. Anthony Stoneware is an American pottery founded in 1966 by Paul Anthony with the vision & passion to produce functional ceramic ware of high material integrity, excellent design and pleasing aesthetic. Anthony Stoneware is the pottery of Paul Anthony and Tim Jaqua who work from their studio in Western North Carolina using traditional techniques of wheel-throwing and slab construction. Not only do they mix their own glazes, but the pottery is fired in a gas-fired kiln which they designed and built. Each piece is handcrafted on the potter's wheel or constructed from clay slabs using techniques that Paul and Tim have been developing in the studio since 1966. Carved and sculpted rims are prevalent and have become the signature design element of their work. All ware is fired to 2400o F to create a very durable, vitreous product that will not decay, fade, or breakdown, which with care will become an heirloom. A great pottery pieces with a lot of visual and textural interest. MARKINGS: signed and stamped impressed with Paul Anthony and his logo on the bottom. Individually made, unusual glaze craftsmanship contrasts with mottled colors, each piece is slightly different, full of artistic beauty. Ashville, North Carolina Art Pottery...
