Pair Blue and White Chinoiserie Porcelain Saucers 18th Century England Ca-1785

About the Item

This pair of blue and white porcelain saucers was made by Caughley in England circa 1785. Painted in underglaze blue, they show a lovely chinoiserie scene of a mother and son in a lush garden with flowering trees and several large vases. The blue line around the edge of each saucer frames and enhances the scene. The underside of each saucer has the Caughley crescent mark in underglaze blue. Dimensions: 5" diameter Condition: Excellent Price: $265 Background of Caughley Porcelain: From 1775 to 1799, at Caughley near Broseley in Shropshire, England, Ambrose Gallimore and Thomas Turner produced some of the finest soft-paste porcelain made in England in the 18th century. The porcelain was mainly decorated in underglaze blue, although enamel colors and gilding were also sometimes used. Today, Caughley porcelain is highly collectible and much sought after.
