Pair, Copeland & Garrett Ripon Family Armorial Porcelain Soup Bowls C. 1833-1847 Each piece features the latin term "Qualis Ab Incepto" which translates to "The Same As From The Beginning". William Copeland died in 1826 and Josiah Spode the Second in 1828. Until 1833, the company was managed by one of Spode’s sons and other managers. On 1st March 1833 William Taylor Copeland, William Copeland’s son, acquired the business in partnership with a Thomas Garrett until 1847. During this period the factory was the largest in land area and ovens rivaled only by Davenport. During this partnership the factory’s productions were marked ‘Copeland and Garrett’ Typical wares produced during the Copeland and Garrett period were in the Rococo style, fashionable at the time.

    An oversized Agatewear ewer or water pitcher, from the ‘Agate’ toiletwares line in the ‘Pompiean’ shape, Copeland and Garrett, Spode - circa 1840. Copeland and Garrett operated from 1833-1847 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Agateware vessels are made up of a white clay stained with metallic oxides to create a swirl of multi-colored clays. A large piece originally paired with a basin, molded with an applied handle, a flat-top crimped upper rim, and a footed base.
