Vase/sculpture n°5 - Hybrids series

About the Item

Hybrids Series Before she started creating her vases / sculptures, ceramicist Alice Aroeira sculpted many matriarchs, deeply feminine figures who, for her, represented the connection between women and the earth and the fertile potential shared by both. Like the matriarch, the pieces are made of curves, of totally organic shapes. Alice is interested in seeing how people interact with the pieces - how each body reacts to this object. History tells us that women played an essential role in the development of agriculture, mainly because of their ability to perfect processes and tools, including ceramics. Updating the use of something so ancient is one of Alice's main desires, and she saw in her pieces a hybrid between utensil and object to be contemplated.
