With two artistic parents (her father is cartoonist Aroeira and her mother, Aída Queiroz, is a motion designer and member of the Anima Mundi Festival,) Alice grew up in direct contact with plenty materials, techniques and visual references, trying her hand at mixed media since she was a little girl. With a BA in Design from PUC-Rio, she has always been enchanted by the world of visual arts, having previously owned a fashion brand, where she was the head designer. The switch to ceramics came smoothly along with motherhood, and her atelier, where the whole creative process takes place, is located oh the hip district of Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro." Hybrids Before delving into this series of hybrid sculptures, ceramist Alice Aroeira sculpted many matriarchs, deeply feminine figures which, for her, represented a woman's connection with the earth and the fertile potential shared by both. Just like the matriarch, the sculptures are filled with curves, making them entirely organic shapes. Alice is interested in seeing how people interact with the pieces - how each body reacts to that object. Updating the uses of something so ancient is one of Alice's main desires, which she saw in her sculptures, a hybrid between utensil and object to be contemplated. With contemporary work, the artist has been fully dedicated to ceramics and the visual arts since 2020.
