About the Item

A truly elegant and rare vintage 10-piece crystal service set by Saint Louis, France. Exceptionally clear crystal, ignore the first photo image, these glasses are perfectly crystallane. We offer these 10 wine glasses in translucent blown crystal on a hexagonal leg, with richly carved decoration on the parison of palmettes, stars, bevels and braces. Circular base, on the reverse side of which a protruding rosette which is chiseled. Delightfully ornate leg. Very fine work expected of Saint Louis crystal in size, precision, depth, complexity, harmonious. These Gavarni model glasses are listed in the catalogue dating back to early 1900s. Will enhance any table or bar cabinet and delight you and your guests. These glasses were made in early 20th century, circa 1925, production prior to 1936. Almost all of these items are marked as most were fabricated during the era when Saint Louis began to etch their pieces. Some may not be marked because they were then produced prior to the time when the manufacturer began etching the pieces. Starting in circa 1920, perfume bottles were etched with a Saint Louis logo as were a decanter, a goblet, and a wine glass, and champagne flutes with the words “Saint Louis and FRANCE” circling the logo. However, the model is in the official catalog of the manufacture for the year 1930, cf. plate 12, size 4878. Copy of the catalog is attached in the images. This model is typically used for red wine. They are made with strong crystal, very pure (30% lead in the composition) and high-end, presenting marked similarities with those of the collections Florence, and Massenet. Dimensions: 5" high x 2 3/8" diameter at the base Diameter at the top of the glass is 2 1/4" These glasses are, therefore, of medium antique size (smaller than a water glass, a little larger than a white wine glass). Perfect vintage condition, dense, limpid and unaltered crystal; beautiful objects, with a deep cut, giving them a very brilliant shine.
