Exceptional Set of 15 Polychrome Dutch Delft Tiles with Birds an Flowers
About the Item
An exceptional set of 15 polychrome Dutch Delft tiles with birds, flowers, and insects.
Made in The Netherlands, circa 1625 - 1650.
This set of tiles is of very fine quality and has a wonderful bright glaze. The images are painted after engravings by Adriaen Collaert, who was a master engraver of nature and other subjects. These tiles are therefore known as Collaert tiles. The tiles are finely painted with much detail and striking bright colors.
If we look at the decorations on the tiles we see various birds and flowers, for example: a lapwing, grebe, swan, crane, and a rose, tulip, chrysanthemum, iris and a corncockle with butterfly.
To find Collaert tiles is rare, but to find 15 tiles of one firing of this quality is extremely rare and exceptional.
Please note:
All tiles are mounted and framed in a heavy cast iron frame and can not be removed easily.
