Antique Art Nouveau KPM Berlin Porcelain Gilded Windmill Charger Plate 14"

About the Item

Rare antique KPM Berlin porcelain dinner plate, platter or charger featuring central landscape scene that of a windmill, figures, and sailboats surrounded by Art Nouveau design of floral swags / leaves in gold gilt and teal. “The Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin (German: Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin, abbreviated as KPM), also known as the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin and whose products are generally called Berlin porcelain, was founded in 1763 by King Frederick II of Prussia (known as Frederick the Great). Its actual origins, however, lie in three private enterprises which, under crown patronage, were trying to establish the production of "white gold" (i.e. porcelain) in Berlin from the mid-18th century onwards. The company logo is a cobalt blue sceptre, which is stamped (painted prior to 1837) on every piece. All painted pieces produced by KPM are signed by the painter. KPM is still producing to this day; each piece of dishware and decorative porcelain is entirely unique. KPM has produced a number of dishware forms and porcelain figurines throughout its history. Some forms have hardly changed their shape in over 200 years of production. Frederick the Great, who, as the owner, jokingly referred to himself as his own "best customer", was under the spell of the Rococo style during his life; a culmination of this artistic style can be seen in his castles. To this day, the most successful designs of the 1930s are the Urbino, Urania and Arkadia (originally a tea set designed in honor of KPM's 175th anniversary) created by Trude Petri. The Arkadia medallions were created by Siegmund Schütz and the Urania set (with the same basic form as the Arkadia) did not enter production until after the war, as was also the case with the Arkadia table set. Porcelain figurines of different styles corresponding to each era have always been created under the guidance of the master workshop, including the modern animal sculptures, such as the miniature Buddy Bear or the Knut Bear. “ Dimensions: 13.75” x 1.5” x 13.75” (Width x Depth x Height)

8 Antique A. Lanternier French Limoges Scalloped Floral Porcelain Plates 8.5"
Located in Dayton, OH
Set of 8 late 19th - early 20th century A. Lanternier & Co Limoges porcelain plates with deeply scalloped and gilded edges resembling flower petals, echoing the green, pink, and purple floral pattern. Mark used circa 1891-1914. "François Frédéric Lanternier established a luxury porcelain workshop in 1857. Partnering with Breuil he took over the Chabrol factory and started producing porcelain, which was artistically hand decorated in his studio. The company carried on an extensive exporting business with table china being the primary product line. In 1890 the company was joined by Frederic's son, Alfred Lanternier. Alfred gained experience working in England as a Wedgewood representative. The company changed name to A. Lanternier & Co. They bought another porcelain factory in Limoges. During WWI the factory also produced porcelain doll heads. After the war, from 1918 onwards, A. Lanternier & Co. continued production of luxury porcelain table wares (tea, coffee and dinner sets). In 1925 they received the Grand Prix at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes). They also produced porcelain for two design studios: Pomone ( Le Bon Marché department store) and La Mestrado, the design studio of the famous Galeries Lafayette in...

2 Antique 1862 Minton International Exhibition Jeweled Turquoise Plates
By Minton
Located in Dayton, OH
Pair of two Minton plates, circa 1862. Provenance : Jerome Schottenstein Estate, Columbus Ohio. Jerome was was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. The Schottenstein family were Lithuanian immigrants who began an extensive business empire in the late 19th Century. Schottenstein Stores owns stakes in DSW and American Signature Furniture; American Eagle Outfitters, retail liquidator SB360 Capital Partners, over 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing its shoes and furniture. It also holds an ownership interest in American Eagle Outfitters, Wehmeyer in Germany, Cold Stone Creamery and The Mazel Company. These superb quality Minton plates are from a dessert service shown at the International Exhibition of 1862 in London. The plates testify to the enduring influence of 18th Century Sèvres on the tastes of Victorian high society. The designs are far from being mere copies, however; while there are recognisable Sèvres elements, they are arranged in entirely new and delightful ways. On the rim are four imitation cameo heads of classical deities en grisaille on a red-brown ground, within oval reserves wreathed in laurel. The profiles are individually painted; compare, for instance, the winged helmeted heads of Hermes/Mercury and you will spot subtle differences. The cameo devices, used here for the first time by Minton, derive from the celebrated Sèvres dinner...
