Set of Jane and Gordon Martz Pottery Plates and Bowl
About the Item
Four hard to find plates and a bowl by Jane and Gordon Martz for their company, Marshall Studios. Incised designs on all pieces. Signed on the back of each piece. 1950s USA.
Jane Marshall married Gordon Martz soon after leaving the prestigious Alfred University. After returning to Indiana, together they joined her family business, Marshall Studio. There they developed a large line of slip cast lamp bases that were given a handmade feel by the addition of incised decoration added by hand to each piece. This method allowed the same slip cast form to be decorated with various different patterns. They also designed dinner ware and tiles used as inlay on table tops.
