Six Georgian Mason's Ironstone Soup Bowls or Plates Harlequin Set, circa 1815

About the Item

This is a harlequin set of six Mason's Ironstone soup plates or bowls, all dating to the earliest recorded George 3rd period between 1813 and 1820. These large soup plates compliment the large Mason's dinner plates we also have listed but the bowls are generally harder to find than the dinner plates. All the plates / bowls are nominally the same size and shape, but have different chinoiserie patterns. All the plates have the straight line impressed base mark of MASONS PATENT Ironstone China, which is one of the earliest recorded marks dating them to 1813-1820. Two plate also carries an additional printed wide spaced Mason's crown mark, again of the same early date. Patterns are as follows; Top row left: "Table and Flower Pot" pattern- part gilded with good detail Top row middle: "Fence, Rock and Tree" pattern - a rare pattern Top row right: "Water Lily" pattern - very colorful gilded - a beautiful striking pattern Bot row left: "Large Stamen Flower" pat'n - Very rare gilded pattern Bot row mid: "Gilded Japan Basket" pat'n - a flower box design Bot row right: "Scroll Landscape and Prunus" pattern - another rare pattern ALL plates have a typical bold hand painted detail, some with heavy gilding. Some of the patterns are much rarer than others, as described above and all the patterns are fully illustrated in "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-848, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. All plates have varying levels of surface and edge wear. The Water Lily Bowl has a small under-rim nibbling to one small part of the underside edge rim - not visible to the front. Please see the images for detail. NO Cracks, NO Restoration.
