18th Century Pan Top Mercury Twist c1750

Heading : Georgian pan topped mercury air twist wine glass Period : George II - c1750 Origin : England Colour : Clear, good grey tone Bowl : Pan top. Excellent pucella marks Stem : A pair of air "mercury" corkscrew tapes Foot : Conical Pontil : Snapped Glass Type : Lead Size : 14.9cm height, 5.5cm diameter bowl, 7cm diameter foot Condition : Excellent, no chips or cracks Restoration : None Weight: 147 grams The air "threads" within the stem are flattened. Light passing into them refracts internally giving this air twist stem a silvered appearance, hence the term mercury.
