Art Deco Pair of French Vases in Black Opaline Glass Hand Painted in Pure Gold

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Wonderful pair of Art Deco vases in shiny black opaline glass; the shape is linear and decisive; for their manufacture, the master glassmakers used a white opaline glass then with the method of hot fusion coloring, they added small amounts of a metal oxide, in this case, cobalt-manganese, to obtain the perfect black, a color very difficult to achieve! This process ensures infinite durability to the color, which remains stable, unalterable, particularly vivid, homogeneous, and intense; at this point, the craftsman working exclusively by hand, with special tools has given the desired shape to the vases that were then put to cool; once cold a skillful painter-artist has spread, where he thought appropriate, the special paint from the sober Pompeian red color, then, in the remaining black spaces has painted in pure gold and with meticulous attention to detail and accurate, rural landscapes with jumping deer then finished the base and the neck of the vases with geometric decorations typical of Art Deco. At this point, the two vases were put back into a low-temperature oven to definitively fix all the colors and finally into the tempera oven where they cooled for many hours with wise slowness and patience. The two vases were made between 1930 and 1935 in an artisan workshop in Wimmenau, in the Vosges region, an area made famous by the important glassworks present in the area (Saint-Louis, Lalique, etc.). The high quality of the manufacture makes our vases unique and incomparable, elegant and refined, able to embellish and evaluate any type of environment. Opaline is slightly translucent glass, opacified by means of phosphates, sodium, and calcium chlorides with the addition of metallic oxides, thus obtaining various shades of colors from milky white to black; opaline glass is much less dense and opaque than lattimo glass (very similar to porcelain); Opaline glass is a French product that was created at the end of the 1700s-beginning of the 1800s in imitation of Murano and German semi-opaque glass from the 17th century and that reached its peak between 1820 and 1870 thanks to the production of French factories (Baccarat, Saint Louis and Choisy-le-Roy). From the 1800s onwards, opaline spread throughout the world with the handcrafted production of everyday objects. France, from ancient to modern times, is recognized as a producer of the best quality opaline glass. The two vases are in excellent condition. Measures diameter cm.12, height cm.24. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Storyteller: Once upon a time, there was a lovely couple who had recently relocated to their dream home in France. When organizing their attic, they discovered a pair of beautiful opaline glass vases that had been passed down from generation to generation. The vases were stunning, with intricate designs of parakeets and butterflies surrounded by flowers painted in the most beautiful blue colors. The vases had an antique enchantment that drew the two in, and their beauty captured them. They noticed something odd as they placed the vases on the coffee table. There had particular energy about them, almost as if they were alive. The vases radiated warmth and love, and the couple felt like they were being welcomed by an old, beloved friend. The couple couldn't help but sense a connection to the vases as they sat on the couch. These were more than just decorative items; they had a history of love and passion that had spanned generations. The vases served as a window into the couple's history, reminding them of the beauty and enchantment of love. As time passed, the pair would frequently sit by the vases, holding hands and telling stories about their own love journey. They'd talk about the highs and lows, and how their love had grown stronger with each passing day. They could feel the vases beaming back at them as they talked as if to say, "Love never dies." Years passed, and the couple grew old together, but their love remained constant. Throughout it all, the vases served as a continual reminder of love's undying strength. They were no longer just antiques; they were a symbol of the couple's personal love story, a memory of their shared journey. So the pair of blue opaline glass vases...
