Art Nouveau Flacon Shape Vase with Clematis Decor, Émile Gallé, France 1903/04
About the Item
Vase in the form of a flacon: slightly bulged body, tapering towards the top, narrow opening, widening to the flared rim of the mouth. The area close to the floor is completely covered in burgundy red, above the etched decor with clematis in front of a milky red-white background.
Cameo signature 'Gallé' near the ground between the plants.
Hand-made Cameo Glass:
Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
