French Art Nouveau Green/Pink Emile Galle Cameo Glass Vase with Hazelnut Catkins

About the Item

Rare green and brown over pink cameo vase depicting 'Chatons du Noisetier', i.e. hazelnut catkins; a pattern designed 1906 (Design is mention in the 1906 new list ref: Provost) (designed by Paul Nicolas before his departure to St Louis) this example dates to c1908 (Signed Provost Mark III) signed in cameo (see picture 2) Emile Galle was probably the greatest glass maker of all time and one of the founding father's of the Art Nouveau movement.

Bulbous shoulder vase on a flush stand, short neck piece with silver mount as a ring in a smooth, slightly flared design, on the outside opposite two fully sculptural branch and cone bundles, colourless glass with white powder meltings, overlay in blue-violet and green, meadow flower decoration etched in various stages, matt etched inside and outside.
