About the Item

Vase in the shape of a drum on an oval, short base, slightly tapering towards the top in depth, at the top as an opening an arcuate cutout with a slight beaded edge. Colorless glass with white and orange-yellow colored powder fusions, overlaid in light green and brown on the outside, high-etched seascape decor in different stages, etched matt on the inside and outside, relief-polished. Cameo signature 'Gallé' with a star on the side in the lower half. Hand-made Cameo Glass: Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
