Pair of Rococo Style Silver Mounted Crystal Claret Jugs by Boivin

About the Item

Pair of Rococo style silver mounted crystal jugs by Boivin French, late 19th century Measures: Height 31cm, width 15cm, depth 10cm This beautiful pair of jugs is by Victor Boivin, a leading silversmith working in France in the late 19th century. Each jug features a fluted cut glass body mounted with finely wrought silver, including a waisted foot below, a scrolled handle, and a hinged lid. The silver throughout is beautifully finished, with Rococo Revival motifs of flowers, leaves, and scrolls predominating. The front of each silver neck is set with a cartouche, which is engraved with an inscription in Latin ‘Non Inulius Premor’ and a thistle, the inscription and thistle relating to the French city of Nancy, thus demonstrating the pair’s provenance. The silver is fully hallmarked for Boivin.
