Regency Cut Glass Butter Dish and Stand

About the Item

A very fine antique cut glass lidded butter dish on matching stand dating from around 1825. The butter dish is of wide rounded shape and has a narrow round cut foot which sits within the recess of the stand and is decorated with diamond and prism cut patterning to the body with a wide turn over rim with prism cut patterning. The dish has a fitted cover with similar patterning and with a star cut mushroom shaped finial. The stand is of rounded form with a star cut base and with a turn-over rim with the same diamond cut patterning as applied to the bowl and cover. A stunning example and part of a small collection of similar period glass originating from an estate in Mayfair, London. The glass is typically not marked. The bowl displays well and is a finely made display piece which appears to have spent much of its life displayed in a glass display cabinet. Provenance: originates from a private collection from a house in Mayfair, London. In good condition with wear associated with age and use but no obvious defects. With wear to the underside of the foot commensurate with age and use.
