Georges Briard
Artist and designer Georges Briard (1917–2005) — a name that has for more than a century been a marker of spectacular and stylish vintage glassware, serveware and other household objects — was born Jascha Brojdo in Russian Ukraine.
Brojdo grew up in Poland and moved to the United States in the 1930s, studying art at the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he began hand-painting metal serving trays while working for Max Wille of M. Wille Company, where Wille suggested changing his name to distinguish his commercial work from his fine art.
As Georges Briard, Brojdo created award-winning designs for items including glasses, trays, coffeepots and dishes in materials like glass, ceramics, metal and wood; he even created gold-plated serveware. His serveware was especially popular from the 1950s to ’70s. It was produced by companies including Culver, Pfaltzgraff and Mdina Glass and sold at high-end department stores like Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller. His designs have a signature opulence, evoking the mid-century modern aesthetic of his time as well as borrowing elements from Art Nouveau and Venetian styles, while the quirky, playful barware pieces he produced featured peacock feathers, skulls and tennis balls.
With colorful, intricate patterns and motifs such as butterflies, Christmas trees and Piet Mondrian-esque geometric abstractions, Georges Briard glasses and dishes were found in the homes of the most fashionable hosts of the mid-century. Today, they are highly prized by collectors.

- Set Six ‘Trieste’ Dining Chairs by Guglielmo UlrichBy Guglielmo Ulrich, SaffaLocated in Chicago, ILCelebrate the ingenuity of Modernist Italian design with this exceptionally rare set of six dining chairs from the "Trieste" series, masterfully crafted by Guglielmo Ulrich in 1961. Manufactured by Saffa, Italy, these exquisite chairs stand as testament to Ulrich's design genius, embodying an innovative fusion of form, function, and craftsmanship. Named after the first prize it won at the Fiera di Trieste in 1961, the "Trieste" chair showcases its innovative and lightweight construction, paralleling Gio Ponti's famed Superleggera chair. It demonstrates a revolutionary use of lightweight wood and intricate craftsmanship, with solid mahogany construction and unique open dovetail joins in lamellar wood that effortlessly connects the legs and backrest together without the use of screws. These split joinery details, visible at each joint, add a unique design element, making each chair a statement piece. These chairs were produced in limited quantities, further enhancing their exclusivity and appeal to collectors and design enthusiasts alike. The set of six dining armchairs are in very good vintage condition, having been carefully refinished / restored by the previous owner. Each chair is upholstered with plush velvet - four in a soft moss green, and two in a dark emerald green, providing a stylish touch of color. The wrapped seats can be easily reupholstered, giving you the opportunity to customize the chairs to your taste! As light as they are luxurious, these "Trieste" chairs rival Gio Ponti's Supperleggera in their innovative use of lightweight materials, without compromising on comfort or stability. Guglielmo Ulrich (1904 - 1977), born into a noble Danish family in Milan, was a seminal figure in Italian design. His works were inspired by 18th and 19th century designs yet reflected a profound understanding of material and simplicity in form and function. His penchant for rare and exquisite materials, combined with an unerring eye...Category
