Vintage sculptural valet tray in thick Sommerso Murano glass, blue and violet
About the Item
Stunning valet tray in thick Murano glass. The peculiar lavender-ish hue, known as "Alessandrite" or "Alexandrite", is obtained by master glassmakers by adding Neodymium oxide to the molten glass. In this way, the glass object will have a different color under different lighting conditions: it appears lavender with natural, yellowish or warm white artificial light, but decidely turns to blue under fluorescent or cold white light.
It's one of the most mesmerizing colors of Murano glass, and the execution of the technique is not easy as it requires to respect precise proportions in the glass/neodymium mix.

The present piece, moreover, is made even more attractive by its timeless look - it's still contemporary after six decades since its design thanks to ths smooth shape and flat, thick top.
