About the Item

Highly decorated, this late 19th century silver stand holds a magnificent cut class cake plate. Both tall and elegant, each piece is an example of decorative design at its finest. The silver base has 4 tiers of late Victorian design, from the beautiful open work feet to the hand punched out scrolled wave and leaf design to a simple etched floral level to the bulbous stippled level with leaves as well. The silver work is immaculate and exquisite. Even the screw on CAP that allows removal to clean the cut glass plate The cut glass is beautifully worked with a shell leaf design. It has the Austrian Vienna 800 silver hallmark as well as the initials MG.

Condition:

Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. The cut glass plate has a saw tooth edge, which lends itself to loss due to use and age. There are 5 or 6 of the scallops that have losses to the points. While there is no big chunk missing, but there are areas where teeth are broken off.
