Minton Majolica Cellini Ewer Jug

About the Item

Minton Majolica ewer with a mythological theme which features putti, birds and vine fruits. The ewer has a tapered neck, with mask head and Sphinx handle. Sits on circular fluted foot. Colouration: brown, green, blue, are predominant. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1859. A matching stand for this ewer does exist. Cellini refers to the very famous 16th Century Italian, Benvenuto Cellini, who is renowned for originally designing this classic style of ewer.
