1800s Antique Italian Silver Tray


A fine and impressive antique Italian silver two handled tray; an addition to our continental silver collection. This impressive antique Italian silver tray has a plain oval form. The surface of this Italian tray is plain and unembellished. The raised rounded border is ornamented with fine and impressive applied rope twist decoration to the rim. This silver tray is fitted with a pair of shaped handles, embellished with further rope twist ornamentation. The reverse terminals of the handles feature the original, function rivets which sit flush to the surface. This impressive example of Italian silverware is supported by four bun style feet. The hallmarks struck to this exceptional Italian tray include: Assay office/Zecca mark: St. Mark lion in 'moleca' Assayer's mark: B G with a central fleur-de-lis (untraced) Dimensions Length across handles 48.8cm/19.2" Width 31.5cm/12.4" Length of surface 36.5cm/14.4" Width of surface 27cm/10.6" Height 8cm/3.1" Weight 25.4 troy ounces/790g Maker: Untraced Maker's Marks circa 1800 Origin: Venice, Italy    Video: A video of this fine piece is available upon request.
