Antique Decorated Laterza Ceramic Dish, Puglia, Italy 1800ca

About the Item

Laertine ceramic production reached its peak between the 17th and 18th centuries when, according to the land register, there were as many as 45 kilns and 48 workshops active in the production of expensive and valuable majolica that supplied the Bourbon and Vatican orders. Today, these noble ceramics are the pride of many museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museun in London and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. The dish is in an 'antique' state with a few dents and old attempts at restoration.
