George III Oval Pierced Sweetmeat Dish Made in London by Thomas Daniel, 1780
About the Item
A very unusual George III Oval Pierced Sweetmeat Dish made in London in 1780 by Thomas Daniel.
The Dish stands on four claw and ball feet below a beaded band. The rim is also beaded and the sides are beautifully pierced and engraved with trailing foliate scrols, pierced vertical pails and prick dot bands. The front displays an oval cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest and this piece has a blue glass liner. The Dish is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the base and with the maker's mark and sterling mark in the piercing. This piece must have been used with a set of salt cellars of an identical, but smaller, design.
