Set of Chinese Export Tea Bowls, Rabbits and Cranes, 19th Century Kraak Style

About

This is a very charming set of five tea bowls and six saucers made in China for export to the West in the 19th Century. The set is made in the "Kraak" style. The bowls and saucers are lightly potted in blueish glaze and have a slightly fluted shape. They are decorated with a familiar symbolism of adorable-looking rabbits, cranes and prune trees. These are all symbolic images: the rabbit stands for longevity and cleverness, the crane carrying a peony flower stands for prosperity and longevity and the prune tree stands for beauty, purity, and the transitoriness of life.  Interestingly, the cranes on one of the saucers do not seem to be carrying a peony flower but a frog! Each bowl and saucer are marked at the bottom with an underglaze blue mark resembling water with a floating object. Condition report The bowls and saucers are in excellent antique condition without any cracks or damage. There is some extremely minor fritting on the underside of the cups, but none on the rims. Antique porcelain is never perfect. Everything was handwork and kilns were fired on wood or coal, creating a lot of dust and other particles that could get baked into the porcelain by accident. Due to the shrinkage in the kiln, items can have small firing lines, which should not be seen as damage but as an imperfection of the time of production. I will reflect any damage, repairs, obvious stress marks, crazing or heavy wear in the item description but some minor scratches, nicks, stains and gilt disintegration can be normal for vintage items and need to be taken into account. There is widespread confusion on the internet about the difference between chips and nicks, or hairlines and cracks. I will reflect any damage as truthfully as I can, i.e. a nick is a tiny bit of damage smaller than 1mm and a chip is something you can easily see with the eye; a glazing line is a break in the glazing only; hairline is extremely tight and/or superficial and not picked up by the finger; and a crack is obvious both to the eye and the finger. Etcetera - I try to be as accurate as I can and please feel free to ask questions or request more detailed pictures. Dimensions (diameters): bowl 7cm (2.75"), saucer 11cm (4.25").
