Italian Age Art Deco 1935 Glazed large Ceramic Basin Richard Ginori, Gio Ponti attributable Art Deco polyhedral circular shape The piece is intact and free from breakage, chipping and restoration. The ceramic speck visible in the particular photo, and two other much smaller, almost invisible, are not chipping, but it is original production, and does not diminish the beauty of this piece About"Richard-Ginori" from Archivio Della Ceramica: The "Richard-Ginori" ceramic factory was founded in 1896, from the acquisition of the ancient Doccia factory, founded by the Marquis Carlo Ginori in 1737, by the "Richard Pottery Company" owned by Giulio Richard. The creator of the fusion Augusto Richard, son of Giulio, entrusts the artistic direction of the nascent manufactory to Luigi Tazzini who directs its production towards the new Art Nouveau style coming from northern Europe. The production of the first decade of the century, in an elegant Art Nouveau style and soon attentive to new influences by Secessionists from Austria and Germany, was presented in Turin in 1898 and 1902, in Milan in 1903 and in 1906 and in Bologna in 1907, always on the market and entering into direct competition with the most important Italian and European ceramic art manufacturers of the time. In these years he collaborated with the artisans of the painters Giuseppe De Col, Alfredo Ciulli, Albizzi, Boni, Donnini, Giusti and Zoppi and the modelers Bianchi and Contino Contini, Bruno Giachetti and Zulimo Aretini. In 1911 the company, which at the time employs about 1500 employees, is present at the great International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Rome with some panels in polychrome Majolica and other works. In the following year he presented works created on the design of Aleardo Terzi, Vittorio Grassi, Umberto Bottazzi and Giovanni Mataloni at the X Venice Biennale. Not attentive to the renewal and not influenced by the Futurist style of the next decade, the "Richard-Ginori" renews its production only starting from 1923, when the artistic direction of the manufacture was entrusted to the architect Giò Ponti. Great innovator and advocate of Italian Neoclassicism Giò Ponti aims at a production of high quality and reserved for an exclusive clientele obtaining excellent commercial successes. Great names like Salvatore Saponaro, Freddy Brawn, Enzo Ceccherini, Bruno Innocenti, Fausto Melotti, Elena Diana, Germiniano Cibau, Mario Lorenzetti, Kurt Lauber, Sandoz, Tommaso Buzzi, Italo Griselli, Giuseppe Sciolli, Montesi, Radames are called to collaborate with the manufacturers. Brettoni, Olimpia Parini and Giorgio Supino. In 1925, in 1927 and in 1929 the glorious manufacture was present at the Biennial of Decorative Arts of Monza with a refined production of great artistic quality, signed by Giò Ponti. In the 1930s he began collaborating with the Giovanni Gariboldi manufactory, which in 1946 assumed the role of Ponti's successor in the role of artistic director. In the same years Nillo Beltrami made some models for the company In 2936-37 Tommaso Cascella collaborates with the "Richard-Ginori" decorating for the company plates, vases, panels and panels, unique pieces some of which are exhibited at the Galleria Pesaro in Milan. In 1937 the production of the manufacture is at the Paris International Exposition. Giò Ponti's collaboration with the "Richard-Ginori Ceramic Society" ends in 1938.
