French 19th Century Provençal Half Glazed Terracotta Confit Pot

This is a fine example of a 19th Century French terracotta confit pot. These pots were used for preserving food in the 19th Century; mainly meats in fat, such as duck confit. The word 'confit' comes from the French verb 'confire' which means to preserve.
